General Information on Autism and the Leading National Autism Organizations

www.autism-society.org - The Autism Society of America is one of the main voices in the autism community. Loaded with up-to date information, it is a valuable resource for people wanting the most recent information on autism.

www.cureautismnow.org - Cure Autism Now (CAN) is an organization of parents, clinicians and leading scientists committed to accelerating the pace of biomedical research in autism through raising money for research projects, education and outreach. Also one of the largest organizations in the autism community.

www.autismspeaks.org - Autism Speaks is dedicated to increasing awareness of the growing autism epidemic and to raising money to fund scientists who are searching for a cure. The organization was founded in February 2005 by Suzanne and Bob Wright. Bob Wright is Vice Chairman and Executive Officer, General Electric, and Chairman and CEO, NBC Universal. Autism Speaks and the National Alliance for Autism Research (NAAR) combined operations in February 2006, bringing together two of the leading organizations dedicated to accelerating and funding biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments and cure for autism spectrum disorders; to increasing awareness of the nation's fastest growing developmental disorder; and to advocating for the needs of affected families.

www.autismwebsite.com/ - The Autism Research Institute (ARI) was established in 1967, the San Diego-based nonprofit is world headquarters for research and information on autism and related disorders, and the epicenter of a rapidly growing movement that holds that autism can be treated effectively through intensive behavior modification and a variety of individualized biomedical treatments.

www.autism.org - The Center for the Study of Autism (CSA) provides information about autism to parents and professionals, and conducts research on the efficacy of various therapeutic interventions. Much of our research is in collaboration with the Autism Research Institute in San Diego, California. A particular article of interest is titled "What I Would Do If I Were a Parent of An Autistic Child: Recommendations Based on 25 Years of Research Experience" - Written by Stephen M. Edelson, Ph.D.

www.agre.org - Autism Genetic Resource Exchange (AGRE) is a DNA repository and family registry, housing a database of genotypic and phenotypic information that is available to the entire scientific community. In this 8th edition, there are 30 new pedigrees. As they become available, additional family pedigrees will be posted on our online catalog which, based on the expanding nature of the resource, provides the most up-to-date availability of pedigrees and biomaterials. Cell lines have been established for the majority of families in this collection and serum is available on a subset of the subjects until stocks are depleted.
