| TITLE: BASIC EDUCATION
INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE
JOB SUMMARY: To assist in providing well-organized, smoothly functioning
school environment in which
students with special needs benefit from the basic education instructional
program
REPORTS TO: Program Manager or Administrator as assigned
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assists in reinforcing instructional program and guiding students
in development of desirable academic and social skills and habits
• Assists in implementation of pupil behavior management plans which
may involve use of approved behavior modification, physical management
techniques or other skills to establish and maintain appropriate behavior
• Assists in establishing and maintaining clean, safe and pleasant
learning environment
• Assists in implementation of student Individualized Educational
Plan through variety of classroom, site and community activities as assigned
• Assists students in variety of instructional, recreational, health
and personal activities as assigned
• Assists with checking, care, preparation and arrangement of instructional
materials and equipment
• Assists with recordkeeping, filing and other clerical duties as
appropriate to program funding
• Assist in child restraint and providing First Aide and CPR in
cases of an emergency
• Maintains current knowledge of skills and techniques related to
position; attends training sessions, workshops and other in-service activities
as needed
• Maintains confidentiality of student records in accordance with
the basic education program and legal requirements
• Performs other related duties as assigned
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of high school diploma and passage of Valley Achievement
Center proficiency test; audio-visual and teacher aide courses desirable
• Minimum of 3 units of Child Development
• Demonstrated knowledge of and the ability to assist in implementing
VAC techniques and approved methods of intervention for student behavior(s)
and Applied Behavior Analysis techniques.
• Ability to follow oral and written directions
• Knowledge of basic clerical procedures
• Ability to learn computer skills
• Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in staff, students
and parents
• Maintain organization of student work areas
• Maintain confidential student records and files
• Participate in student behavior modification plan
• Maintain records of student progress
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be according to current
VAC schedule
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with
VAC’s Employee Handbook and Board
Policies
