July 5, 2007 - As the Independence Day celebrations come to a close, we would like to thank everyone who came by our fireworks booth and helped to support our fundraising efforts. It was our most successful fireworks booth ever. This year we decided that a raffle would help motivate people to spend that extra dollar. People that spent over $50 in fireworks were eligible for our raffle drawing, a Nintendo Wii with an extra controller and a Mario Party 8 video game. We drew the winning ticket this morning. The winner is...Chris Medrano of Bakersfield. We congratulate Chris and thank the rest of you for participating in our raffle. We look forward to doing it all again next year. See the pictures of our booth and raffle winner here. May 24, 2007 - As a reminder to parents, Basic Education will be in session on Thursday May 31, 2007. April 9, 2007 - We would like to thank everyone who participated in "Taking Steps to Overcome Autism" this weekend. The event was a huge success in all areas. More than 300 people came out to walk, play in the carnival, and participate in the egg hunt. We raised over $7500 to help in our efforts to expand our existing programs, increase autism awareness throughout the community, and educate the public on Valley Achievement Center's mission and purpose. March 19, 2007 - Once again, a front page story of this Sunday's Bakersfield Californian focused on autism. This time the headline read, "Autism in young adults: Options narrow, grow costly as children with disorder age". The article follows a day with a student, and member of the Valley Achievement Center family, Caroline Hulsy. By bringing her story to the community, people will now have a better understanding of what we can accomplish with early, intense intervention programs. We would like to thank Lisa Schencker and the Bakersfield Californian for bringing much needed attention to the issue of autism and Valley Achievement Center. March 12, 2007 - The main front page story of Sunday's Bakersfield Californian, focused on the issue of autism. The headline read, "The Challenges of Autism" and the articles covered over 2 and a half full pages. The importance of Autism Awareness is finally being acknowledged by the mainstream media, and not a moment too soon. V.A.C. was mentioned a few times and a day-in-the-life feature titled "Family Cherishes Small Victories" was done on a V.A.C. board member, Sue Backer, her son Zachary, and their family. If you missed the articles, please check them out. March 5, 2007 - Pictures from past V.A.C fundraisers have been posted on our Events Section. Our fundraisers are not only fun, but help to raise public awareness of autism and support our various programs. We would also like to thank our current Gold Level Sponsors for "Taking Steps to Overcome Autism" 2007 for their support and generosity.
